Dust Off Your Shoulder

I have definitely been bewitched by the magic of Stardust. I’m a huge fan of fantasy inspired movies but I wasn’t expecting much out of this initially. Because a lot of movies out there are just jumping on the bandwagon and try to ride the success of movies like LOTR and Chronicles of Narnia. I remember watching this show, misled by the awesome trailer, many months back about some Viking shit and was fussing around my seat throughout just waiting for it to end. Though Stardust doesn’t have much high action, engaging fighting scenes and visual artistry as LOTR, it is a treat to watch nonetheless right from the start. Oh and it’s surprisingly funny! I laughed until I teared! Robert De Niro is a class act. It’s part adventure, comedy and romance. I love the part where Claire Danes aka the fallen star awkwardly opened her heart to the very charming hero turned mouse (I want long luscious locks like him! But minus the hairy chest) in the caravan. I love the ending as well. Ok will not throw in spoilers because I hate spoilers myself. The whole movie is magically beautiful.
I caught Hairspray last week and I must say I was sorely disappointed. I’m quite the musical fanatic but this one just doesn’t cut it for me. I don’t know why some people are raving so much about Hairspray. I’ve definitely seen better stage-to-big screen musicals. I only liked the opening scene with Good Morning Baltimore and the ending with You Can’t Stop The Beat. Michelle Pfeiffer stars in both Hairspray and Stardust but she is definitely more stunning and impressive in the latter even though she plays a wicked witch. My dear Singaporean friends, if Stardust is not out in your pathetic shores yet, just keep an eye and make sure you have it in your must-watch movie list yah. Hahark.
